This course is uniquely targeted to help dentists to understand the in's and out's of these critical new technologies. Whether looking to purchase an office based CT scanner or whether just trying to figure out how to interpret and integrate scanning technology into one's practice, this course will walk you through the steps that you must take to make the most of scanning.
In addition radiologists are often called upon to read MRI scans of the temporomandibular joint and maxillofacial region, with unfamiliar background and communication skills for their dental clients. This course will explain the anatomical insight that is necessary for interpreting temporomandibular joint disorders and their relationship to occlusal problems.
Description: We have designed this course to teach participants the practical integration of CT and MR scanning technology. The basics of normal and abnormal temporomandibular joint anatomy and breakdown are covered as background. CT and MR scans are compared side by side from the same patient to help students to understand the direct relationship between joint and occlusal status.
The learning experience builds to the practical interpretation of CT and MR scans by our students. Each participant is seated at their own personal computer monitor as scans are projected for individual assessment. All scans will be read personally by Dr. Piper, and the outlined image anatomy will appear on the student monitors as students have the opportunity to draw their own anatomical interpretation.
These courses have limited availability and seating so that the learning experience can be maximized for each attendee. Doctors are able to bring staff at a reduced rate, to aid in the integration of this new technology into their practices, but auxiliaries will view scans on overhead projection screens. Due to the large amount of material, students' outside scans cannot be accommodated during regular course hours.
Upon completion of this course participants will have the skill sets to order and interpret scans, to deal with insurance and other financial barriers, to interpret and communicate scan findings back to patients, and to understand the integration of scanning into their own dental practice. We believe that upon finishing this course you will never look at your patients the same again!

Special pricing is available for a staff person attending with a registered doctor. The pertinent background anatomy and joint classification systems are reviewed in the introduction so that all participants can get immediately oriented to scan reading.
