Description:

Simply stated, well trained staff members make the dentist’s job easier. This popular course begins its 13th year as the pre-eminent staff training class for offices seeking to transition to comprehensive dentistry or to train new staff members. Through a combination of lecture, breakout sessions and interactive learning, key concepts are addressed with an emphasis on creating systems that will lead to predictable results in clinical practice. While much of the staff training programs emphasize the practice management aspect of dentistry, the reality is that staff members must understand the clinical aspects of dentistry in order to make permanent changes in a practice.


Learning Objectives:

This 2 day course will place a special emphasis on:

Helping both the dentist and staff members understand the decisions that must be made to create a practice based on the principles of comprehensive dentistry

Recognizing and defining the role of the front office staff, the chairside assistant, the lab assistant and the hygienist in the comprehensive practice

Creating a standard operating procedure manual for each position in the office to allow for instant training and continual updating of practice procedures

Answering the most important phone call in the practice (the new patient phone call) and scheduling the most important appointment in the practice (the new patient examination)

Understanding the importance of the 4 parts of the new patient examination (Initial consultation, clinical exam, gathering diagnostic data and the treatment consultation)

Understanding the importance of the initial consultation to help understand and appreciate the uniqueness of each patient

Understanding the clinical exam and recognizing areas of breakdown in the system

Understanding what diagnostic data is necessary and how to collect the data both effectively and efficiently

Understanding the treatment consultation and how to know if cases will need to be phased

Realizing what happens when TM joints click and pop as well as how changes in the TM joint can cause changes in the occlusion (especially in the growing patient)

When to equilibrate, when to use an occlusal appliance, and when to order TM joint imaging

Recognizing esthetic deficits and knowing the clinical procedures necessary to solve the esthetic problem

Developing the steps in treatment plans ranging from simple to complex

How scheduling and fees are interrelated as well as how to set a fair fee that creates patient, staff and doctor satisfaction

Verbal skills that will allow for effective communication with patients and specialists
